The St Luke’s TV Ad Campaign:

St Luke’s is a Sheffield-based hospice and charity that provides specialist palliative care for patients at end of life, and support for their families. They are dedicated to caring for people aged 18 and above throughout Sheffield who have terminal illnesses. Only 23% of St Luke’s running costs are covered by government funding, meaning that they rely on donations to raise an additional £11 million.

St Luke’s commissioned Hydra Creative to create a television advert to promote the launch of a city-wide lottery. The campaign aimed to raise awareness for the lottery and encourage community support. It also needed to embody the warmth, authenticity, and community spirit of St Luke’s through careful camera work.

 Our creative process and key decisions included:

  • Hosting creative workshops with the St Luke’s team
  • Creating a meaningful storyboard
  • Focusing on authenticity when considering the campaign’s creative direction
  • Focusing on local talent by working with some of St Luke’s most passionate supporters instead of professional actors
  • Carefully selecting locations to reflect familiar local settings to create a sense of home and belonging.

 The TV ad resonated with local viewers, raised awareness for the lottery, and encouraged support for St Luke’s. The campaign launched across multiple platforms which increase the visibility of St Luke’s message. Individual Giving Manager, Laura Martin, said ‘We’re delighted with the finished product, it really felt like the team bought into the project, the whole service felt personal, and we would love to work with them in the future.’ At Hydra Creative, the support we provided for St Luke’s remains a proud achievement for our team.
